Why build bike frames by hand?

My first job was sweeping floors at the Placerville Bike Shop, which closed in August, 2019. Bob Molinari hired me as a youngster to clean up, and gradually taught me the wrenching of bicycles. There must have been dozens of young people who worked with Bob over the four decades he ran that shop. I was only there for a few, before moving onto the new REI in Sacramento, then Pacific Bicycles in San Francisco, then Auburn Bikes. Zoinks–all of those shops but REI are closed now. Makes me feel old!
